In conformity with the objects already enunciated, SICCI renders the following services to its members :
SICCI keeps all members advised promptly by circular of any legislation or Government notification affecting industry and trade and also informs them about amendments issued from time to time on income-tax, sales-tax and customs duties, import and export trade control, etc.
SICCI publishes a Monthly Journal titled “The Journal of the Southern India Chamber of Commerce & Industry” for circulation to all members. This contains not only excerpts from the proceedings of the important meetings of the Chamber, but also matters of general interest to business, trade and industry.
Representation on Public Bodies :
The Chamber is represented on a number of public and semi-public bodies of the Centre and State Governments. Representation on these various bodies enables the Chamber to bring up many of its problems to official notice and obtain speedy action.
Liaison with Government and Public Institutions :
It is one of the main functions of SICCI’s Secretariat to maintain close liaison with all Departments of the State Government and with important institutions like the Railways, the Port authorities, Company Law and Taxation Departments, etc., both with a view to collecting useful information for members and for representing members’ difficulties.
Certificates of Analysis and Origin :
SICCI issues Certificates of Analysis and Origin for members in respect of goods exported. We are the only Chamber authorised to give the Certificate of Origin in respect of goods exported to Arab Countries.
Export Advisory Unit :
SICCI supplies factual information to existing and prospective exporters in regard to export documentation, export prospects in different countries, import control, tariff and other regulations in the importing countries, etc.
Trade Introductions :
SICCI receives numerous trade enquiries from all over India and abroad. Many of them are circulated to members likely to be interested so as to help them to establish business connections with outside countries. SICCI also supplies to foreign parties the names of members interested in specific goods for which they wish to establish contacts.
Supply of Statistics :
SICCI maintains statistics of various types, including those relating to import and export on a commodity-wise basis and is presently engaged in enlarging this work to cover various other statistics likely to be used by trade and commerce.
Economic and Market Research :
Economic researches are undertaken from time to time. The unit devotes attention to economic developments in different fields and issues papers which are of value not only to members but also to Government, the Press, Legislators and various opinion-making bodies and institutions within the country and outside.
Contact with the Press :
SICCI maintains close contact with the daily newspapers and commercial journals and periodicals and issues press notes on the Chamber’s activities.
The Chamber periodically organises Seminars on various matters of current interest like Company Law, Sales-Tax, Economic Development, Foreign Collaboration, Taxation, etc., with a view to assessing members’ views and making representations thereon.
With the advent of liberalisation and globalisation of the Indian economy, the role of the Chamber is assuming a new direction. The Chamber has realised the new needs of business and has created a separate Wing for conducting Exhibitions, for the benefit of members and industries. The role of the Exhibition Wing is to organise exhibitions on various areas of business. The Exhibition Wing as a first step branded Information Security – iSecTM and is planning to conduct yearly events. Similarly, the Exhibition Wing will conduct branded events in other areas as well.
Expert Committees :
SICCI is having Expert Committees on various important aspects including Taxation (including State level), Shipping & Logistics, Infrastructure, Technology, Banking & Finance, IPR, Entertainment, Foreign Trade, etc. Each Committee is being headed by Senior Industrialist and supported by high calibre professionals.
Essential Links :
SICCI is a founder-member of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), New Delhi and assists that body in formulating the view of the Southern Region. It communicates directly with the Central Government and other bodies when necessary. The Chamber is also a member of the Indian National Committee of the International Chamber of Commerce, the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, etc.
